Get to know the people behind Transparency-One! In the third article of this series, we spoke with our Director of Sales for North America, Jeff Behn, who is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
1. Where are you from?
Well I was born in Minnesota but we moved to Texas when I was in 2nd grade, so I grew up in Texas and went to University in Texas – so I call Texas “where I am from.”
2. What does a Director of Sales do?
My job is to help our business development team execute on sales cycles, lead some sales cycles, work on sales process and discipline, develop our forecasting and revenue projections, and work with the team on developing pricing models and go to market strategies.
3. How did you get into your field?
I have been in supply chain either services or software for 28 years. I started on the services side and moved into supply chain software sales in 2001.
4. What does a typical day look like for you?
The best part of the job is there is no typical day, as every sales call, demo, cycle is different. Each customer you work with is trying to solve a similar challenge but they each have unique reasons, challenges and process, and we have to work inside that environment.
5. What’s one of the biggest challenges about your job?
Start-ups mean that you have to be very flexible, you have to build things that are not there. It is fun and rewarding but it is a challenge versus a larger organization where these already exist. But, that is why you join a start-up: because you want to build something new and unique.
6. Where can we find you when you’re not in the office?
Biking, swimming, watching FC Bayern or the German National Football team, cooking, and a bit of yoga to clear it all up.
